Sunday I headed into church, forehead glistening, with a 20 pounder asleep in one arm, a 35 pounder asleep in the other + a 5 lb diaper bag and a 3 year old that wanted to hold my hand. Why, when we become mommas, don't we grow an extra arm or two? I mean, we can incubate babies inside of us. Why not grow additional extremities while we are at it? To my surprise, one of the young men, Braxton, pulled up at the same time I did, met me half way into church and took 20 lbs off my load.
Sundays can be a wee bit difficult for me when Chris has to travel and speak in other wards for High Council. This sunday was no different. I was tempted to not go and just let the babies play. I wouldn't have to worry about getting church clothes dirty and messy hair, from wrestling before we walk out the door. I could also have a nice lunch for Chris when he got home.
Well, we went and I am so glad we did. Someone once gave a talk in our ward, and made the comment to mothers with small children, "This is not your time to listen & learn. It is time for your children to learn the importance of being at church. Its time for you to be their example." The topic was missionary work. Funny thing, because I had a dream the night before I was fellowshipping investigators and new members in our ward. Wierd huh? (Chris says I read into stuff too much. I love to watch "Medium." I think he thinks I think I am phsycic.) I made sure I introduced myself to the new family that was baptised a few weeks ago. I'd like to say I would have, regardless of my dream, but felt a little more responsible. They are a wonderful family.
So, crazy things happen, even at church. There were a handful of new people at church. One of the visitors asked where two of the little boys were, while in primary. She made her way to the primary wing and told the presidency, that she was supposed to pick up the 2 and 7 year olds for their parents. Then she proceeded to tell them they were her twins and she was taking them home. They checked with their momma, and she didn't even know the woman. Hmmm. Scary. She was asked to leave and needless to say, they held the primary and only let the parents take them from class.
When Chris calls as he heads home from his H.C. meetings, asking what's for lunch, I usually have the reply,"Its a Sunday Surprise!" Simply because I have no idea what we are going to put in our bellies. I try so hard just to get us out the door and to church looking like we at least tried to be presentable, that I don't get around to getting a head start on lunch. Well, hang on to your hose, cause Momma felt like frying up somethin' good. I decided to cook some chicken. I rarely to almost never fry. After Chris and I had been married a few months, he said his cholesterol was getting too low. He needed something greasy. Every now and then I remember that and pull out the fry daddy.
I found a recipe for a buttermilk fried chicken. It sounded so good and I had so much confidence in my abilities, I even called the in-laws over to eat with us. Fortunately, their phone is tore up and they didn't answer! The first pieces to come out were black and still bleeding. Chris gave me a few tips. I took his advice (with eyes rolling in my head),and surprise! He knew what he was talking about.
Well, I learned a few things from this experience...
- Always try a recipe before you invite others to try it with you.
- Sometimes our hubbies know what they are talking about when they ramble on about cooking.
- It doesn't hurt to have a backup plan.
- Always try a recipe before you invite others to try it with you!

What a great day, and a beautiful pic of the babies in your header.
